PIG FACTS
The right sows’ feeding ensures higher survival rate of piglets

The right feeding of sows during farrowing has a great effect on the survival of piglets. The sows feeding needs change in the period before and after farrowing. The sows feed is vital for her health and a healthy sow will ensure a higher piglet survival rate.

In the period before farrowing the feed must be gentle to her stomach to avoid diarrhea and farrowing fewer. In the week after farrowing the sow needs feed with high energy and amino-acid to stimulate milk production. We have developed a product called “Master Valve Sow” that allows feeding with two different mixtures.

How does the right feeding affects the sows during farrowing? How can you control the right distribution of feed mixes to the sows?

Interview with Torben Olesen, ACO FUNKI A/S, and Susanne Zwergius Teilmann, Danish Agriculture & Food Council.
